Somatic sound experience blending live air traffic control radio with generative synthesizers
ATC Soundscapes is a participatory installation that merges live air traffic control (ATC) radio feeds with a procedurally generated synthesizer soundscape. The work is an invitation to explore deep listening for up to four participants at a time, who operate a toggle to switch between two simultaneous feeds. Listeners partake in the collective creation of a meditative and somatic composition, leveraging the efforts of communities who receive local air traffic control frequencies and rebroadcast them onto internet radio via liveatc.com. The global network of audio transmissions becomes a generative sonic landscape, bending and transforming various signals with resonant filter sweeps and binaural audio effects.
